Perfects as Feature Shifting Operators

چکیده
The original purpose of what follows was to deal with a problem that arises for ‘pure result state’ accounts of the perfect, which treat perfects as operators that transform event and state descriptions into descriptions of corresponding result states and make these the target of location in time by tenses and temporal adverbs. In the form in which we endorsed this approach for many years ((Kamp and Reyle 1993), (Reyle, Rossdeutscher and Kamp 2007)) it entails that a sentence like I have submitted my essay today can be true even if the submission itself took place before today. Some speakers argue that this sentence has a reading on which can be true on such a scenario. or others this is hard or impossible. But from all the evidence available to us on this point it seems to us that the sentence must have a reading on which it entails that ms. was submitted on the day of utterance. (It is a further matter, but one which does not directly affect the need for a correction to our earlier result state account, whether the sentence does or does not have an interpretation that does not require this.)

Contours Extraction Using Line Detection and Zernike Moment
Most of the contour detection methods suffers from some drawbacks such as noise, occlusion of objects, shifting, scaling and rotation of objects in image which they suppress the recognition accuracy. To solve the problem, this paper utilizes Zernike Moment (ZM) and Pseudo Zernike Moment (PZM) to extract object contour features in all situations such as rotation, scaling and shifting of object i...
متن کاملRobot Motion Vision Pait I: Theory
A direct method called fixation is introduced for solving the general motion vision problem, arbitrary motion relative to an arbitrary environment. This method results in a linear constraint equation which explicitly expresses the rotational velocity in terms of the translational velocity. The combination of this constraint equation with the Brightness-Change Constraint Equation solves the gene...
متن کاملOn the cross-linguistic variation of ‘one-step past-referring’ tenses
Current accounts of the cross-linguistic variation of present perfect tenses have one thing in common: they do not work. I argue that this is due to the fact that, so far, they have not clearly identified the problem. The present perfects are not the only tenses to vary cross-linguistically: simple past tenses do so as well, and crucially, these two variations are interdependent. I will first i...
متن کاملRandom Shifting for CNN: a Solution to Reduce Information Loss in Down-Sampling Layers
Down-sampling is widely adopted in deep convolutional neural networks (DCNN) for reducing the number of network parameters while preserving the transformation invariance. However, it cannot utilize information effectively because it only adopts a fixed stride strategy, which may result in poor generalization ability and information loss. In this paper, we propose a novel random strategy to alle...
متن کاملOn the O(1/t) convergence rate of the projection and contraction methods for variational inequalities with Lipschitz continuous monotone operators
Recently, Nemirovski’s analysis indicates that the extragradient method has the O(1/t) convergence rate for variational inequalities with Lipschitz continuous monotone operators. For the same problems, in the last decades, we have developed a class of Fejér monotone projection and contraction methods. Until now, only convergence results are available to these projection and contraction methods,...
